Qualifications 

You do not need to have any special training to be a PCA... at least for me! Just as each individual who relies on PCAs has different needs, each individual looks for or requires different traits that meet their needs.

 

Here is a rundown on what I need and look for in a PCA:

Minimum Requirements: 

  • At least 18-years-old

  • Female due to very personal nature of cares

  • Be able to commit to a minimum of 6-9 months

  • Willing to work some major holidays

  • Have a clean Comprehensive Criminal Background (you will be fingerprinted when hired)

  • Ability to easily, comfortably, independently lift 80lbs multiple times a day

  • Have a valid Driver's License with a good driving background 

  • Be free of smoke, alcohol and drugs before and during work

  • Willing to follow COVID guidelines and precautions 

  • OK with small dogs 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Own your own vehicle

  • Completely smoke and drug-free

  • Love dogs

  • Interest in health, medical, social work or special education fields 

Important Qualities:

  • Mature and responsible

  • Committed, dedicated and reliable

  • Punctual

  • Good work ethic

  • Maintain work schedule and not need frequent time off

  • Honesty and integrity

  • Open and timely communication

  • Willingness to learn new things 

  • Flexibility - Willing to adjust your schedule and help out with shifts when needed

  • Adaptability 

  • Open-mindedness 

  • Friendly 

  • Outgoing 

  • Caring

  • People person 

  • Attentive and fast on your feet

  • Respectful of privacy and personal space 

  • Treat others with dignity and respect

  • Likes to have fun! 

Bonus Qualities:

  • Be in school for health, medical, social work or special education degrees

  • Prior caregiving experience 

  • Experience with physical disabilities 

  • Have a CNA, HHA, LPN or RN license 

  • CPR/BLS/First-Aid certification
